Advice from an Irish Mother

Dear Alice,

My new boyfriend wants to have sex all the time. He gets home from work, takes his clothes off at the doorstep and says, “I’m home honey, let’s hit the sack.” Don’t get me wrong, I love him and the sex is good, but I get really sore sometimes. I get a small break during my time of the month, but he calls that week Backdoor Week. I don’t mind anal sex, but I have heard that overdoing it can weaken the sphincter. Is this true and is my boyfriend normal? Please help.

Mary M. – Fayetteville, NC

Dear Mary,

My oh my, some men die of thirst while others drown. Backdoor Week will not make your back door weak. The sphincter is a strong, highly elastic muscle that typically recovers safely when sexual activity is consensual. However, anal sex can potentially damage the sphincter and rectal area if done without proper preparation. Use different sized butt-plugs to gradually stretch your anus in the hours before he gets home. And use lots of lubrication. Is your boyfriend normal? A man behaves according to his options. You’re the one who comes across as not normal. Most women would be horrified by how you describe your sex life. Learn to say no when you’re sore and not in the mood. If that upsets your boyfriend, he’s emotionally immature. Break up with him and change your phone number.
