David Paul Brown, Jr. is a 42-year-old musical troubadour who performs under the moniker/brand name, Wayward Blues & Company. Born on Fort Bragg to a military family, David knew he wanted to sing and play guitar when he heard his cousin perform a rendition of John Lennon’s Working Class Hero. “It was raw and gritty, and it hit me right in the chest.” This experience led to a love for bands like The Who, The Doors, and the band that “changed everything,” The Beatles. But it goes even deeper than that. “I was fifteen and living with my grandfather. My mother had passed some years before. When I first listened to Please Please Me, an album belonging to my sister. It brought all these repressed memories of my mother back. It was cathartic. The Beatles not only changed everything in music, they changed everything in me.”

The first time David played in front of an audience was at a Paddy and Bill show back in 2006. “I forgot the words and the chords because I was so nervous, but I did get laid that night.” And he was part of the songwriter’s guild when Paddy’s first opened in 2007. In 2008, he left North Carolina for Colorado, spent ten years in the Coast Guard before returning to the Fayetteville area in 2022 to reset his life and make some changes. “I had some rough times, like many people do, but today I am clean and California sober.”

David Brown is a scholar and a gentleman. He performs for audiences all around the state, and he’s a regular performer at Art Attack. In 2026, he is booked to perform at Paddy’s on January 2nd and April 4th.
