AIRBORNE GOURMET - Cheerwine BBQ Sauce
Recipes by Chef David Sears
BBQ Season is upon us and what better time than to give my spin on North Carolina’s own “Cheerwine” BBQ Sauce. This version is Tangy and Sweet with a little heat. Perfect on meat or veggies, or use as a glaze on ham or meatloaf.
- 2 cans of Cheerwine
- 1/2 cup of soy sauce
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/2 cup light molasses
- 1 cup ketchup
- 6 tbsp butter
- 3 cups brown sugar
- 6 tbsp minced garlic
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 3 tbsp smoked paprika
- 2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 4 tbsp yellow mustard
- 2 tsp kosher salt
- 2 tbsp black pepper
Method: Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and heat on medium stirring frequently for approximately 20 to 30 minutes, or until the sauce has cooked down and thickens. Sauce should coat the back of a spoon. Cool and store in refrigerator. Warm before using. ~ Sláinte
