Bones Fork – Therapeutic Rock n’ Roll

BY Elaina J. Martin
In 2014, just a year before Rob Dufresne retired from the military, his band – Bones Fork – was created. The name “Bones Fork” refers to the creek in an area in which Army Special Forces candidates train. Today the band is comprised of Dufresne who plays the guitar and provides lead vocals, Roger Staff on lead guitar, Jared Porter on the drums, and Joe Felice plays bass. The original band grew out of a group of Army Green Berets that needed to blow off some steam. The guys found that there was therapeutic value in rock n’ roll. Influenced by 90’s grunge music and classic rock, Dufresne found that reconnecting with music was good for the soul and the brain. When he retired, he leaned on music to function and realized his music could help others.
Historically, Dufresne has written the majority of the band’s songs providing powerful lyrics. His favorite original song is “Rolling with the Heat,” which is about a friend and teammate who was killed In Afghanistan. For their upcoming third album – set for release in Fall 2025 – all members of the group will be writing songs.
Bones Fork will be playing at Paddy’s on March 22nd. The band loves playing Paddy’s because of the professionalism and talent of the sound engineers. Crowds at their show always have a good time. Who do they want to see at their show? “Everybody. In addition to the original music we play, we will be covering songs from the 1970s to the 2000s,” Dufresne says. “Fayetteville is a military town so for those in the Army the imagery in the original songs will be familiar.”
