Halloween Shenanigans
BY Patrick Gibney
At Paddy’s, Halloween is right up there with St. Patrick’s Day as one of the big occasions of the year. This could be because of all the colorful costumes people wear, or it could be because of all the boobs, fannies, and hoo-ha’s that are on display, only slightly impeded by the thinnest dental floss. Ironically, Halloween’s oldest roots are in an ancient Irish holiday called Samhain (pronounced sow-win). Samhain, or “Summer’s End,” was in part a harvest festival when Celtic tribes assembled, conferred, and made new laws. The Irish believed that during this transitional time of year, the lines between the worlds of the living and the dead thinned, and this allowed the spirits of the dead to return to earth. As protection from supernatural mischief, the Irish lit bonfires, wore animal skins and masks to disguise themselves from spirits who might wish them ill. Halloween is still widely celebrated in Ireland. But who cares about what goes on in Ireland on Halloween? Here’s what’s going on here.
- Friday, Oct 4th – When I Grow Up costume party – Guests are supposed to dress up as what/who they wanted to be when they were kids. Live music by Steady Hand.
- Saturday, Oct 5th – Rock’n’roll Piano Show – Dueling pianos in the pub. Friday, Oct 11th – Paddy and Bill Live – those two assholes again – preceded by performances by our recent Karaoke Contest winners.

- Friday, October 25th – Emo Night in the pub. Starts right as the Zombie Walk ends.

Roland and Catherine will be teaching the Thriller Dance and Monster Mash in The Church. There will be free treats, drink specials, and games throughout the venue. The patio will be extended into the parking lot with a photo booth and outside bar.
