Johanna Brumm – Friend of Foliage

BY Elaina J. Martin

Located at 325 Blount Street, in the warehouse district, is a little gem of a business known as The Downtown Market of Fayetteville. Here, owner Johanna Brumm, who was born and raised here and once recognized by the Fayetteville Observer as one of 40 under 40, has created a quaint place to pick up artisan items such as locally sourced candles, soaps, flowers, and gifts. The store has transitioned over the years and now serves Fayetteville as mainly a florist.

With The Downtown Market of Fayetteville, Brumm offers event services including planning, florals, balloon garlands and walls, and charcuterie tables. “I opened The Downtown Market of Fayetteville to support local farmers and makers who are mostly veterans or military wives,” Brumm said. “I come from a very large military family, so that's always been important to me.” Brumm is very active in Fayetteville. “I'm currently on the Connections of Cumberland County, Dogwood, and Kidspeace boards,” she said. “I enjoy helping others in the community.”

What began as a traditional floral arranging workshop at Paddy’s on March 27 this year, The Tipsy Gardner takes place every 4th Wednesday of the month on the patio at 6:30 pm. “On October 23rd there will be a succulent/cactus garden class, The stand is a skeleton hand with a bowl on top that you will put plants in and then decorate with Halloween decor items.”

“The classes are very versatile and for anyone who wants a night out and some bonding time,” said Brumm. So, grab a friend – or meet a new one – and head to the Paddy’s for a drink and a relaxing, creative fun evening.
