The Church Says Goodbye to Social Media

BY Patrick Gibney

The Church opened its doors on St. Patrick’s Day 2017. It was designed to be a multi-functional event space. I called it The Church for two reasons – as a juxtaposition to the original, more bawdy Paddy’s Pub side of our venue and as a commentary on the importance of faith as opposed to religion. While The Church pokes fun at religion, it also represents and exalts my own personal faith in Christ and the significant role that plays in my life. However, it didn’t sit well with some folks.

My dear friend and mentor, Tony Rand, tried to convince me to change the name to The Court and fill it with portraits of local judges - a local church prayer group came by when it was being built to pray for my soul and ask me to repent - several people wrote to the newspaper complaining about the name - and Reverend Mark Creech, the director of the Christian Action League of NC, wrote a piece about me that likened me to the kind of blasphemer that Paul the Apostle said should be stoned to death. Now, there’s a guy in dire need of a blowjob, but I digress.

So why am I telling you all this? Simply to remind everyone that The Church is a part of Paddy’s, not the other way round. With this in mind, we have decided to scrap all social media related to The Church and move it all over under the Paddy’s social media umbrella. So, if you haven’t liked us or followed us on the Paddy’s social media platforms, please do so. Our mantra has always been, “not just an Irish pub.” Well, it can also be simplified or stated as PUB – GRUB – CLUB. We’re a great little pub, we’re a stunning club and event space, and we have some of the best pub food in the Cape Fear region. Thank you for your continued support.
