The Fayetteville Marksmen Ice Hockey Team

The Fayetteville Marksmen ice hockey team was created when Chuck Norris (not the actor, but a former military paratrooper) took over the Fayetteville FireAntz team in 2017. Over the past few years, they have played about 28 games at home and 28 games away during the season. Next year’s schedule for the 19-man roster boasts a 58-game schedule.
Hockey is not a traditional sport in North Carolina so, for many people here, going to a game is about making a memory. The goal is that people will come back. The Fayetteville Marksmen are in the business of making memories, not only during the plays on the ice, but also other moments, like entertainment during intermission. To keep things interesting, the team has thematic games. For example, the February 8th game is “Operation SELLOUT” at which all available seats are only $10, regardless of where they are located. “It is such a popular event that the tickets sell out fast,” says Erik Konwinski, the team’s Business Development and Broadcast Coordinator. February 20th is “School Day,” during which kids from across the state can watch a game with a 10 A.M. puck drop.”
Pepper Woodard works in marketing and business administration at Paddy’s and is a Marksmen fan. “I love the excitement of the people at the arena…I love that the players are so good to the kids who are looking up to them, and they also take time to volunteer in the city they play for. Don’t get me wrong I love all the sweetness of these young men, but I also love seeing blood on the ice!” At the end of January, she hosted the season ticket holder trivia night, combining two of her favorite things – hockey and trivia!
“I feel that Paddy’s is a place where the players can come and enjoy the ambiance of the pub or club while letting off the steam of playing at the next level,” says Woodard. If you are looking for a hockey player off the ice, try stopping by Paddy’s after a Saturday night Fayetteville Marksmen game and you might see some familiar faces.
