Alan Dover – A True Renaissance Man
Emerson wrote, “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” This quote jumped into my mind when I heard the news that Alan Dover, a friend and respected member of the Paddy’s family, had passed away.
He was, amongst other things, a soldier, a patriot, a musician, an educator, a chef, an academic, and a sportsman. He was a true renaissance man. Alan was a member of the Aftskin Wranglers Trivia Team who took part in Paddy’s weekly trivia competition. He also wrote for The Oily Discharge, contributing unique and delicious recipes for the publication every month. We are all better off for having known this man. He was a gentleman and a scholar. May he rest in peace.
